Our Purpose Hello

The General Missionary Department exists for the purpose of making practical the response of The Churches of Christ in Christian Union to the Great Commissions received from our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19-20 and in Acts 1:8.

Confiding in the promised Power of the Holy Spirit we minister in faithful obedience to God's Word, sharing the message of full salvation and praying that the Lord of the harvest will send forth workers into His harvest.

Our Outreach

Missionaries in The Churches of Christ in Christian Union serve in dual appointment with our denomination and with World Gospel Mission. We have career missionaries, missionary disciples and volunteers ministering in Bolivia, Honduras, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, and with Native Americans in the southwest United States.

In cooperation with World Gospel Mission, our missionary discipleship program is equipping Christian men and women who are dedicated to the Great Commission to serve as cross-cultural missionaries. They are called to share the messages of salvation and biblical holiness. During a shortened mission field experience disciples actively participate in a variety of ministry opportunities and make decisions about possible continued service as career missionaries.

Our career and discipleship missionaries have completed a careful application, interview and orientation process, and are required to complete language studies. Career missionaries with The Churches of Christ in Christian Union are appointed to five year terms ideally composed of one year of fund raising and four years of field ministries.

Our History

Chartered in 1909, The Churches of Christ in Christian Union specifically began a system of missionary support through offerings within its local churches in the 1913 General Council. By 1916 missionary outreach from the Ohio conference to some depressed areas in other states was begun. In 1928 Mary Johnson traveled to India as our pioneer CCCU missionary to foreign soil.

Since that time, CCCU missionaries have served on 5 continents, Central America, the Carribean, and the South Pacific. We currently have 34 missionaries in active ministry.
