When reading the Old Testament, I am always amazed at how often the Israelites turned away from God to worship idols. Over and over again God miraculously delivered them from their enemies. However, it wouldn't be long before they would turn their backs on God to worship some kind of a false god. Tragically, we see our own nation turning away from the true and living God and becoming a highly secular nation.

There are those who do not believe in the existence of God. However, the main question for many is, "Which god will they serve?" Our gods today are money, power, prestige, pleasure, sex, sports and self. I must remind you that Jehovah will not share the throne of your heart with you, another person, or anything else.

It is a sad fact that many people live their whole life and never understand that God created us for Himself. So it's not until we invite God to occupy the center of our affections that the void in our lives will be filled. No one can fill that void except God Himself.

The Bible also makes it clear that no one can serve two masters or he will love one and despise the other. Trying to serve two or more gods will ultimately destroy you emotionally, physically and spiritually. It will fill your life with chaos, conflict and confusion.

I meet people on a regular basis that have pushed God into a small corner of their heart. This will not work. He must have first place in your affections and ambitions.

Anything in our lives that takes priority over God and His will becomes your idol. It might even be something perfectly legitimate such as a spouse, a child or career. God must always have the supreme affection of our heart.

Our God is a jealous God. He must have first place in every area of our lives. Is there anything in your life that is competing with God's will for you? If so, the sooner you recognize that and surrender it to God the more fulfilled your life will be.

Who or what is your god? Understand there is only one true and living God. I urge you to let God be God in your life. Give Him your undivided love and loyalty. You will only destroy yourself trying to worship more than one God. Like the old chorus says, "Let go and let God have His wonderful way." It's the only way to live with the smile of God's approval on your life. You will be eternally thankful that you did.

I challenge you to examine your priorities and make certain that the will of the Lord is your first priority. God said, "You shall have no other gods before me." Exodus 20:3
