It is with heavy hearts that we write to you today. Two soldiers of the cross from The Churches of Christ in Christian Union have now received their heavenly rewards. While we grieve here with their families, Rev. James Akers and Rev. Raymond McDaniel, Jr. are rejoicing as they have made it Home. Below you will see the information regarding their services. Rev. James Akers

Rev. James E. Akers, of Columbus, OH., born Jan 15, 1934 in West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on March 22, 2019. Retired minister for The Churches of Christ in Christian Union, where he pastored many churches, including Plumwood and Freedom Chapel. Retired from Horton Emergency Vehicles. Preceded in death by parents, wife Mae E Akers, daughter Judy K. Gee and son Kenny F. Akers, brothers and sister. Survived by wife Constance (Jackie Byrd) Akers, son Jimmy Akers (Teresa), stepson Keith Byrd (Beverly), grandsons Anthony Gee, Lewis, and Grand daughters Amy Gee (Christopher), Sherry-Mae, Amanda, Lori, Kim and Leah and a host of grand children, great grand children, nieces and nephews. Friends may call at JERRY SPEARS FUNERAL HOME, 2693 W. Broad St., Tuesday, 4-7 PM where service will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday. Rev. Lee Tabor officiating. Interment Alton Cemetery.

Rev. Raymond McDaniel, Jr.

Rev. Raymond McDaniel, Jr., age 76, of Canal Winchester, formerly of Reynoldsburg, promoted to glory Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Mt. Carmel St. Ann's Hospital. Born June 7, 1942 in Jeffersonville to the late Raymond & LuEmma (Moore) McDaniel, he was a graduate of London High School. Rev. McDaniel received his call to preach at the age of 8 ½ years old, and served 50 years as Pastor at East Columbus Community Church of Christ in Christian Union. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley (Riley) McDaniel; children, Cheryl (Terry) Isaacs, Canal Winchester, Scott McDaniel, Reynoldsburg, Robin Smith, Johnstown; grandchildren, Tara (Philip) Arthur, Marissa (Nick) Rush, Derek (Jessica) Isaacs, Nicolas Smith; great-grandchildren, Sophia Isaacs, Elijah Arthur, Peyton Isaacs, Isaac Arthur; brother, Roger (Connie) McDaniel, Grove City; sister, Brenda Tabor, Columbus; nieces, nephews, and all of his church family. Preceded in death by his sister, Linda Foster. Friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday at East Columbus Community Church, 6926 Tussing Road, Reynoldsburg, 43068 where funeral service will be held 10 am Friday. Interment Lithopolis Cemetery.
