I was reminded of a song as I finished my scripture reading out of I and II Timothy. The two verses that stood out was I Timothy 4:1 which reads “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,” and II Timothy 3:1 “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.” As I read from Timothy the song that came to mind was ‘In Times Like These.’ A song written by Ruth Caye Jones in 1944 and has been used throughout the years. The song reminds us of 4 things we need in these perilous times. May we be encouraged in these last days that the Lord will give us what we need.
- In times like these we need a Saviour. We need a Saviour because we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God and Ephesians 2:1 reminds us that we are dead in sins. We need a Saviour because hell is real. I am so thankful God provided and sent His only begotten Son to be our Saviour. Let us tell the world we have a Saviour for times like these.
- In times like these we need an anchor. An anchor is secure and provides security. Hebrews 6:19 speaks of God who cannot lie and who promises and gives to us Jesus our Saviour as our hope and anchor. It reads “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil.” Let us tell the world they have an anchor for times like these.
- In times like these we need the Bible. We know the importance of God’s eternal Word. The Word of God teaches us:
- To study the Word of God: II Timothy 2:15
- To keep the Word of God in our heart: Proverbs 4:4
- To be doers of the Word of God: James 1:22
- To sow the Word of God in the world: Psalm 126:5-6
I’m so thankful for the Word of God in times like these. Let us tell the world the Bible is truth and dependable in times like these.
- In times like these we need not be idle. Surely, in the light of the soon return of Jesus Christ, we should be serving the Lord and witnessing with all our hearts. Now is the time for Christians to give service to evangelism, prayer, devotion and love. This is urgent because of the condition of our present world.
In times like these you and I are needed. This is the hour to spread the Gospel light and to sow the seed of the Good News that Jesus saves, sanctifies and satisfies those who will come to Him. The song ‘In Times Like These’ says it best.
In times like these you need a Savior,
In times like these you need an anchor;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
This Rock is Jesus, Yes He's the One,
This Rock is Jesus, the only One;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
In times like these you need the Bible,
In times like these, O be not idle;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
This Rock is Jesus, Yes He's the One,
This Rock is Jesus, the only One;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
In times like these I have a Savior,
In times like these I have an anchor;
I'm very sure, I'm very sure
My anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
This Rock is Jesus, Yes He's the One,
This Rock is Jesus, the only One;
Be very sure, be very sure,
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!
