The General Board of Trustees has appointed Rev. Michael Tipton as General Missionary Superintendent. He began his duties on March 1, 2018. Tipton will fulfill the unexpired term of Dr. David Lattimer.
Upon accepting the position, Tipton acknowledged the challenges of the role, but noted that he has great joy in accepting this new position. “I am excited to work alongside the gifted and committed missionaries, pastors and lay leaders of our denomination to build on the foundation already established. We are trusting the Lord to give us fresh vision for the next season,” he said. “God is up to something good, and I am honored to be part of it.”
Tipton has a strong passion for missions. He currently serves on the World Gospel Mission (WGM) Board of Directors. He served as a fulltime volunteer missionary with WGM from 2004-05, serving in Paraguay and Uganda. He is a certified work team leader, and he has led and participated in seventeen work teams. He also served as the Executive Director of Summer Project Youth, a missions ministry providing emergency home repairs to families in southwest Virginia.
Tipton has been deeply involved in church and denominational ministries as well. He has served as President of the General Evangelical Christian Youth (ECY) Board since 2007, providing leadership to youth ministries throughout the denomination. Previously, Tipton served as Director of Alumni at Ohio Christian University and Director of Family Ministries at Fieldstone United Methodist Church in Christiansburg, Virginia. Tipton has also served on the General Christian Education Board, South Central District ECY Board, and numerous other boards and committees.
Tipton is a graduate of Ohio Christian University, Wesley Biblical Seminary, and the University of Akron. He is an ordained minister in The Churches of Christ in Christian Union and a licensed attorney in the State of Ohio. He and his wife, April, reside in Circleville, Ohio.
